Fishing in Iowa has wide opportunities for fun for a novice as well as an experienced angler. The lake has got numerous water bodies which offer these opportunities. Some of the best are as follows.
Pine Lake State Park
It is located on the east of Eldora. You can camp with a tent or RV on a large campground here. The Pine Lake contains mainly crappie, bluegills and largemouth bass.
Brushy Creek
It is located by Webster City. It has got all modern facilities including for tent and RV camping. The lake gives good catches of perch, walleye, crappies, muskies, bluegills and largemouth bass.
The Mississippi River
The River offers some of the excellent fishing in Iowa along the state’s east border. The wide variety of fishes includes northern pike, catfish, bullheads, smallmouth and largemouth, bass, perch, walleye, crappies, muskies, and bluegills.
Lake Iowa
Lake Iowa Park is situated off I-80 at Exit 211 towards Millersburg. The lake is ideally safe to take children. The fishes caught are largemouth bass, bluegill, and crappies.
3 Mile Lake
It is located by Afton which lies in southwestern Iowa. It is one of the top 10 fishing spots in Iowa. The campground provides facilities for tent and RV camping. The main fishes caught are crappie, largemouth bass and bluegills.
12 Mile Lake
Just a short distance from the 3 Mile Lake, the 12 Mile Lake is located in the Union County. It also offers a campground and provides the catches of crappie, bluegills and largemouth bass.
Badger Lake
Situate in the Webster County in the Northwest Iowa, this lake offers fishing of bluegill, channel catfish, crappie and largemouth bass. All the facilities are available including campground and it has a good shore fishing access.
Crawford Creek
It is located in the Ida County in northwest Iowa and provides good fishing of bluegill, bullhead, channel catfish, crappie and largemouth bass. All facilities are available along with campground.
Green Island Lakes
Located in the Jackson County, 1 mile east of Green Island, this lake has boating access, though not shore fishing access or campground. Available fish species are bluegill, bullhead, crappie, largemouth bass and northern pike.
Red Rock
It is situated 4 miles north of Knoxville in the Marion County in the southwest Iowa. It is a big lake of area 19,000 acres, with boating access, a fair shore fishing access, and camping facilities. The fish species you can catch are channel catfish, crappie, largemouth bass and white bass.
Icaria
It is located in the Adams County, 4 miles north to Corning. It has got a good shore fishing access, boating access and wide variety of fishes like bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, largemouth bass and walleye. It has campground too.
Little River Lake
It is located in the Decatur County, 1 mile west of Leon. It has a fair shore fishing access, boating access and campground, and gives the catches of bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, and walleye.
DeSoto Bend
It is located in the Harrison County, 5 miles west of Missouri Valley. It has all the facilities except camping. Available fish species are bluegill, channel catfish, crappie and largemouth bass.
Rathbun Lake
Located in the Appanoose County in the Southeast Iowa, it is a big lake of 11,000-acres. It has good shore fishing, and boating access and campground too. The available species are channel catfish, crappie, walleye, and white bass.
Pleasant Creek Lake
It is located in the Linn County in the southeast Iowa, 4 miles north of Palo. It has excellent shore fishing access, boating access and a campground too. A wide variety of fishes are available like bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass, muskie, walleye, white bass and yellow perch.
Odessa
This is located in the Louisa County in southeast Iowa and has an area of 3,000 acres. It has fair fishing access, boating access and a campground and gives catches of bluegill, bullhead and crappie.
